In the early 1990s, a farm in Bugok-ri, Dasa-eup, began cultivating catfish in rice paddies instead of the region's traditional rice crops, with the support of the Agricultural Support Center. By the mid-1990s, the farm had developed and started selling its own version of spicy catfish stew, which led to the formation of a village known for specializing in this unique dish. This distinctive Daegu-style soup is made with live catfish raised in rice paddies, which are simmered with an abundance of garlic and red pepper powder. The result is a rich, flavorful broth that retains none of the typical fishy odor, even without the use of special spices. The soup is moderately spicy, with a pleasantly hearty taste that has become a beloved local specialty.
